Acoustic-gravity wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010344
A type of atmospheric wave that propagates through a compressible fluid medium, such as the atmosphere, under the influence of both gravity and acoustic pressure. These waves are generated by events like severe thunderstorms, volcanic eruptions, or earthquakes that disturb the air column. Their periods range from a few minutes to several hours, and they are capable of transporting energy over very long distances through the atmosphere.
