Airmass analysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003409
The process of identifying and characterizing large bodies of air, known as air masses, based on their temperature and moisture properties. Meteorologists use surface and upper-air observations, such as temperature, dew point, and pressure, to determine the boundaries (fronts) and stability of different air masses. This analysis is a core component of synoptic meteorology and is used to forecast weather changes associated with the movement of these air masses.
