Aitken nucleus

A microscopic aerosol particle with a radius smaller than 0.1 micrometers, serving as a condensation nucleus in the atmosphere. These particles are too small to act as efficient cloud condensation nuclei but are numerous in both polluted and clean air. Their concentration is measured using a condensation particle counter.
