Allowed transitions
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003442
Quantum mechanical transitions between energy levels of atoms or molecules that obey specific selection rules, resulting in a high probability of occurrence. These transitions are responsible for the absorption and emission of radiation observed in atmospheric spectroscopy. They are characterized by changes in quantum numbers that satisfy conservation laws, such as those for angular momentum.
