Energy level
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005376
A discrete, quantized amount of energy that an atom or molecule is permitted to hold. Transitions between these levels occur through the absorption or emission of photons of specific frequencies, a process that governs the interaction of matter with electromagnetic radiation. The specific energy levels of atmospheric gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide determine their absorption spectra.
