Auroral corona
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003707
A spectacular auroral display that appears when an observer is directly underneath the magnetic field lines where auroral particles are precipitating. The auroral rays seem to converge to a single point directly overhead, creating a crown-like or funnel-shaped appearance. This perspective effect is due to the parallel nature of the auroral rays aligned with the Earth's magnetic field.
