Auroral bands
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003706
Dynamic and often wavy or folded structures of auroral light that appear as elongated ribbons across the sky. These bands are more active and less stable than auroral arcs, frequently changing shape and intensity. They are characteristic of more disturbed geomagnetic conditions and are caused by the precipitation of energetic particles into the upper atmosphere.
