Barometer elevation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003813

The specific vertical height above a standard reference datum, usually mean sea level, at which a barometer is located. This elevation is a necessary parameter for correcting the measured station pressure to a common level, such as sea level pressure, allowing for meaningful comparisons between different locations. The correction accounts for the hydrostatic decrease in pressure with altitude, which is approximately 1 hectopascal for every 8 meters.
