Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003282

The true vertical distance of a point or object above a specified datum, most commonly mean sea level. For a weather station, it is the elevation of the ground at the station site, distinct from the height of the instruments above the ground. This value is used to reduce surface pressure readings to mean sea level pressure for standardized comparison on weather maps.
