Beam swinging

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003868

A technique used in Doppler radar systems, particularly wind profilers, to measure the three-dimensional wind field. The radar beam is sequentially directed at different zenith angles and azimuths, allowing for the calculation of horizontal and vertical wind components from the measured radial velocities. This method provides detailed wind profiles through the atmosphere, typically up to several kilometers in altitude.
