Rabal
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010701
A method of upper-air observation that involves tracking a free-rising balloon by radar to determine wind speed and direction at different altitudes. The balloon carries a radar reflector or a radiosonde, allowing ground-based radar to precisely measure its position over time. This technique provides detailed wind profiles up to the stratosphere, complementing data from other atmospheric sounding systems.
