Balloon sounding

A meteorological observation technique involving the release of a weather balloon carrying a radiosonde, which transmits atmospheric data back to a ground station. As the balloon ascends, it measures vertical profiles of temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed and direction. These soundings are performed globally twice daily at 00 and 12 UTC.
