Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008593
A radiosonde observation providing a vertical profile of atmospheric conditions such as temperature, humidity, and pressure. The data is gathered by a radiosonde, an instrument package lifted by a weather balloon, which transmits measurements back to a ground station via radio. These observations are fundamental inputs for numerical weather prediction models and are typically conducted worldwide at 0000 and 1200 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
