Cardinal temperatures
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004176
The set of three temperature thresholds that define the range for a biological process, particularly the growth and development of a specific plant species. These temperatures are the minimum, below which the process does not occur; the optimum, at which the process proceeds at its maximum rate; and the maximum, above which the process stops. In agrometeorology, these values are used to calculate growing degree-days and predict crop development stages and potential yields based on weather data.
