Cascading water
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004190
The process within a cloud where larger, faster-falling hydrometeors, such as raindrops or graupel, collide with and collect smaller, slower-falling cloud droplets or ice crystals. This collection mechanism, a key part of the collision-coalescence process, causes precipitation particles to grow as they descend through the cloud. The efficiency of this process depends on the relative sizes and fall speeds of the interacting particles.
