Chaos
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004252
A state of disorder and unpredictability in a deterministic system, characterized by extreme sensitivity to initial conditions. In meteorology, the atmosphere is a chaotic system, meaning small perturbations can lead to vastly different future weather states. This inherent chaos limits the predictability of weather forecasts beyond a certain time horizon, typically around 10 to 14 days.
