Identical twin integrations
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006452
A method used in numerical weather prediction and climate modeling to assess the predictability of the atmosphere or the sensitivity of a model to small perturbations. Two simulations are run, one considered the 'truth' and the other initialized with a very small, often imperceptible, difference. The divergence between the two simulations reveals the inherent predictability limits or the impact of initial condition errors.
