Chapman layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004253
A theoretical model describing the vertical distribution of an ionized layer in a planetary atmosphere, formed by the absorption of monochromatic radiation. It predicts a layer with a maximum electron density at a specific altitude, decreasing above and below this peak. This model is used to understand the formation of the Earth's ionosphere, particularly the E and F1 regions.
