Circular depolarization ratio

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004301

A radar observable that quantifies the ratio of the power received in the cross-polarized channel to the power received in the co-polarized channel when a circularly polarized wave is transmitted. This ratio provides information about the shape and orientation of hydrometeors, indicating their deviation from spherical symmetry. A value of zero indicates perfectly spherical scatterers, while larger values suggest non-spherical particles like ice crystals.
