Spherical symmetry
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009136
A property of a system where its physical characteristics are uniform in all directions from a central point. In atmospheric science, this concept is sometimes used as an idealization for certain models, such as a spherically symmetric Earth for simplified radiative transfer calculations. Real atmospheric conditions rarely exhibit perfect spherical symmetry due to variations in topography and solar heating.
