Clear line of sight
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004331
An unobstructed path between an observer or instrument and a target, allowing for direct visual or electromagnetic wave propagation. In meteorological remote sensing, this path must be free from intervening obstacles like terrain, buildings, or dense atmospheric phenomena that would block or scatter the signal. For example, a ground-based weather radar requires a clear line of sight to accurately measure precipitation at a distance.
