Conical scanning
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004597
A radar scanning technique where the antenna rotates its beam in a circular path around a central axis, tracing out a cone in space. This method allows for the measurement of atmospheric properties over a wide area and at different elevation angles. It is commonly employed in weather radars to detect precipitation and wind fields.
