Helical scanning

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006214

A radar scanning technique where the antenna continuously rotates in azimuth while simultaneously elevating or depressing its angle, tracing a helical path through the atmosphere. This method allows for rapid and efficient volumetric sampling of the atmosphere, providing a three-dimensional view of precipitation and wind fields. It is commonly used in modern Doppler weather radars.
