Limb scanning
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006961
A remote sensing technique where an instrument observes the Earth's atmosphere by looking horizontally through the limb, or edge, of the planet. This method allows for the retrieval of vertical profiles of atmospheric constituents, temperature, and pressure with high vertical resolution. Satellites employing limb scanning include the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE).
