Limestone scrubbing
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006962
A process used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from industrial exhaust gases, particularly from coal-fired power plants. Flue gases are passed through a slurry of pulverized limestone (calcium carbonate), which reacts with the sulfur dioxide to form calcium sulfite or gypsum. This method is a common form of flue gas desulfurization (FGD).
