Fly ash

A fine, powdery byproduct of coal combustion, consisting of microscopic spherical particles that are carried out of the combustion chamber with the flue gases. It is primarily composed of silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, iron oxide, and calcium oxide. In the atmosphere, fly ash can act as condensation nuclei or contribute to particulate matter pollution.
