Fly ash

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001521

A fine powder consisting of siliceous and aluminous material that results from the combustion of pulverized coal in electric power generating plants. In oilfield applications, it is used as a pozzolanic extender in cement slurries to reduce density, improve compressive strength development, and lower costs. Fly ash is classified by ASTM C618 into Class F, derived from burning anthracite or bituminous coal, and Class C, from lignite or sub-bituminous coal.
