Pozzolan
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002890
A siliceous or aluminous material that, when finely ground and mixed with water, reacts with calcium hydroxide to form compounds possessing cementitious properties. Natural pozzolans include volcanic ash and certain shales, while artificial ones include fly ash from coal combustion and silica fume. In oil well cementing, it is added to Portland cement slurries to reduce density, lower cost, and increase resistance to sulfate attack in downhole environments.
