Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002162
A low-rank coal, finely ground and added to drilling fluids as a deflocculant and fluid-loss control agent. Its humic acid content contributes to its ability to thin muds and reduce water invasion into formations. Lignite is particularly effective in freshwater and low-salinity mud systems, often used in conjunction with other additives.
