Leonardite
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002150
A naturally oxidized lignite coal, used as a drilling fluid additive to control rheology and fluid loss. It acts as a deflocculant and a thinner, especially in water-based muds. This material is rich in humic acids, which contribute to its effectiveness in stabilizing shales and reducing filtration rates at elevated temperatures.
