Consensus average

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004601

A single forecast value derived by averaging the outputs from multiple, independent numerical weather prediction models for a specific parameter at a given time and location. This technique aims to produce a more reliable forecast by smoothing out individual model errors and biases, creating a product that is often more accurate than any single model output. The final value is a simple arithmetic mean, although weighted averages based on past model performance can also be used.
