Convolution
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004689
A mathematical operation that combines two functions to produce a third function, expressing how the shape of one is modified by the other. In meteorology, it is used in signal processing for filtering or smoothing data, such as applying a moving average to time series or spatial fields. It is also fundamental in remote sensing for understanding how atmospheric effects or instrument responses modify observed signals.
