Coriolis acceleration

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004701

An apparent acceleration experienced by objects moving within a rotating frame of reference, acting perpendicular to the direction of motion. In the Northern Hemisphere, it deflects moving objects to the right, and in the Southern Hemisphere, to the left. This acceleration is proportional to the object's velocity and the sine of the latitude.
