Correlative meteorology

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004718

An approach to atmospheric science that focuses on identifying and analyzing statistical relationships between different meteorological variables or between atmospheric conditions and other phenomena. This method seeks to establish predictive links and patterns, such as the correlation between sea surface temperature anomalies in one region and precipitation patterns in another. It relies on statistical analysis of observational data rather than on a complete physical understanding of the causal mechanisms.
