The path or trajectory followed by a weather system, such as a hurricane or an area of low pressure, as it moves across the Earth's surface or through the atmosphere. This track is determined by the prevailing steering currents, which are large-scale wind patterns in the middle and upper troposphere. The forecast course of a tropical cyclone is often depicted on maps with a cone of uncertainty representing the probable track of the storm's center.
