Darcian velocity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004855
A hypothetical fluid flow rate through a porous medium, calculated as the volumetric flow rate divided by the total cross-sectional area of the medium, including both solid particles and pore spaces. Also known as specific discharge, it represents an average velocity over the entire medium rather than the actual speed of fluid particles. The true fluid speed, or seepage velocity, is higher because the water only flows through the interconnected pore spaces.
