Data window
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004864
A mathematical function applied to a finite segment of a time-series dataset before performing a Fourier transform. The function tapers the data smoothly to zero at the beginning and end of the interval, which minimizes spectral leakage caused by the artificial discontinuity of a finite sample. Common examples used in analyzing atmospheric data include the Hanning, Hamming, and Blackman windows.
