Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010280
A spectral band in the electromagnetic spectrum where the atmosphere is largely transparent to radiation, allowing it to pass through with little absorption. These windows permit remote sensing of the Earth's surface and clouds from satellites. The primary atmospheric window for thermal infrared radiation is between 8 and 14 micrometers, which is used to measure surface and cloud-top temperatures.
