A technique in satellite remote sensing that uses measurements from two adjacent infrared spectral channels, typically in the 10-12 micrometer range, to correct for atmospheric absorption effects. By comparing the radiance observed in these two channels, which have slightly different sensitivities to water vapor, the method allows for a more accurate retrieval of sea surface temperature or land surface temperature. This approach is widely used with data from instruments like the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR).
