Dispersive medium
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005060
A medium in which the speed of wave propagation depends on the wave's frequency. Different frequency components of a wave travel at different velocities, leading to the spreading out or distortion of a wave packet over time. The Earth's atmosphere can act as a dispersive medium for certain electromagnetic waves.
