Earthquake

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005232

A sudden shaking of the Earth's surface caused by the rapid release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere, resulting in seismic waves. This energy release often occurs along fault lines due to the movement of tectonic plates. Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale or moment magnitude scale, with magnitudes ranging from imperceptible tremors to devastating events.
