Equivalent barotropic model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005453
A simplified atmospheric model that assumes the wind velocity is independent of height and that the temperature advection is negligible. This model is often used to study large-scale atmospheric flows, particularly in the upper troposphere, where the barotropic assumption is more valid. It reduces the three-dimensional atmospheric equations to a two-dimensional form.
