Footprint modeling
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005701
The computational process of determining the spatial area on the Earth's surface that contributes to a measurement taken by a sensor or instrument. This technique quantifies the influence of different surface locations on an observed atmospheric flux or concentration. It is widely applied in micrometeorology to interpret eddy covariance measurements.
