Fossil ice

Ice that has persisted in a frozen state for an extended geological period, often buried beneath sediment or other ice layers. This ancient ice provides valuable paleoclimatic records through trapped air bubbles and isotopic composition. It is found in permafrost regions and deep within ice sheets, such as those in Greenland and Antarctica.
