Fraunhofer diffraction theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005749
A mathematical framework used to describe the diffraction of light when the source and observation point are effectively at infinite distances from the diffracting object. This approximation simplifies the wave equations, making calculations feasible for far-field diffraction patterns. It is often applied in atmospheric optics to model phenomena like coronas and glories, where light interacts with small particles.
