Frost climate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005821

The coldest temperature province in Thornthwaite's climate classification, covering ice cap regions that stay perennially under snow and ice, such as Antarctica and the interior of Greenland. In his scheme the province has a thermal efficiency index of zero, because no month is warm enough to support plant growth. It ranks below the tundra province, in which at least one month averages above freezing.
