Gaussian wave packet
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005891
A localized wave disturbance whose amplitude is described by a Gaussian function, resulting in a concentration of wave energy in both physical space and wavenumber space. In atmospheric dynamics, this concept can be applied to describe the propagation of certain types of atmospheric waves, such as gravity waves, where energy is confined to a specific region. It represents a transient wave group rather than an infinitely extended wave train.
