Grading

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006022

The process by which a land surface is worn down toward a uniform, nearly level slope, as when erosion and deposition by streams lower hills and fill low ground. For a stream, grading ends when its bed reaches the slope at which the flow can just carry the sediment supplied to it. The lowest level a river can erode to is its base level, usually sea level.
