Gravity wave drag

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006045

A force exerted on the atmosphere by the breaking of gravity waves, which are oscillations in a fluid medium under the influence of gravity. As these waves propagate upward and break, they transfer momentum from the lower atmosphere to higher altitudes. This process significantly influences the global circulation patterns and temperature structure of the middle atmosphere.
