Hill fog
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006256
A type of fog that forms when moist air is forced to rise over elevated terrain, cooling adiabatically until it reaches saturation. As the air ascends, water vapor condenses into tiny droplets, creating a cloud that envelops the hills or mountains. This phenomenon is common in coastal or upland areas where prevailing winds carry moist air inland.
